Doubles Flex League
October through May
How the Flex League will work:
A two-person team is placed in a round-robin bracket of 5 teams and will play 4 matches over a 5-week session. There are six 5-week sessions in the season.
- After each 5-week session, we’ll shuffle the teams into new brackets and play another 5 weeks through to the end of the season.
- The first session for 2023 begins on October 8th. Sign up cut-off for the first session (October 8 through November 11) is October 1st.
- Teams will be placed into brackets based on their DUPR team rating. (i.e., Player 1 has a 3.3 rating; Player 2 has a 3.6 rating- the team rating is 3.45. They will play against teams with similar team ratings.)
What else?
- You can organize your weekly league match at a time that is convenient for you and your opponent.
- Play best 2 of 3 games to 15.
- Teams are gender neutral.
- You must have a DUPR rating, (easy to get), and match scores will be reported to DUPR. (Just like a handicap index for the golf leagues.)
- If you don’t have a partner, we’ll help you find one.
Questions & Answers
Q. How many total matches will each team play during the season?
A: The maximum number is 24 matches. You will play against 4 other teams during a five-week session. This will be followed by a one-week break so the
teams can be re-bracketed. There are six 6-week sessions between October 8th and June 2nd. 6x4=24.
Q. I need to go out of town for a couple of months. Can I still play in the league?
A. Yes. But you won’t accumulate any wins when you don’t play.
Q. If I need to go out of town for a week or two during a five-week session, can I schedule my match
A. Yes. As long as your scheduled opponent agrees to do so. As an extreme example, you could play all five matches in one week.
Q. Can my partner and I join the league mid-season?
A. Absolutely. We will ask each team to indicate whether or not they will be playing in the next session.
Q. How do I get a DUPR rating?
A. On the HSV Pickleball Club website HSV Pickleball Club, there are instructions under the “Let’s Play” tab on how to join DUPR.
Q. Must we play on the Desoto Outdoor Courts?
A. The Desoto Outdoor Courts are the default courts to play on. If both scheduled teams choose to play somewhere else, they can do so. However, both must agree. Otherwise, it is the Desoto Outdoor Courts.
Q. If my partner is a higher-level rated player and our team rating is, let’s say, a 3.6, can I also
A. Yes – but there must be enough brackets so that you would not end up playing in the same bracket against yourself. If that becomes the case, you will have to choose which team you want to play on for that session.
Q. How do we know against whom and when to play?
A. Brackets for each session will be sent by email during the week before the beginning of that session. Each team will designate one person as the Team Captain. Team Captains are responsible for contacting each other and setting a day and time to play the match. The Team Captain will also be the primary point of contact with the League Manager.
Q. Are the matches refereed?
A. All matches are self-refereed using current APA rules.
Q. How do we get the match results to the league manager and into DUPR?
A. Each team will be given scoresheets to use to record the scores of the match. Team captains will each sign the scoresheet and place them in a box in the clubhouse. The League Manager will record the match results in DUPR weekly and post them to the Doubles Flex League Standings board in the clubhouse.
Q. Will there be a Doubles Flex League Champion?
A. Yes. The team with the most match wins at the end of the season will be the League Champion. Ties will be decided by who wins the most games.
